Carol is a Japanese Canadian who has been drawing and painting for as long as she can remember and whose
passion for watercolours led her to hang up her hardhat and embrace art as a full time profession -- a far cry from designing nuclear power stations, highways and bridges! Carol hails from a family richly endowed in the arts claiming two cousins (Mary Huxley, Joyce Kamikura) and an uncle (Kaz Hamasaki). Carol, (the beginner artist in the family) has been selling paintings through galleries since the late 1980's in Edmonton. When her children were toddlers she wrote and illustrated several small handsized books to entice them to read. By the time they were in kindergarten they were speed reading much to the astonishment of their teachers! She was soon approached by Tutkam Books to illustrate "The Changeling", which has been on the Edmonton Public Library's recommended reading list for young readers for several years.
She served two years as President
of the Federation of Canadian Artists (Edmonton Branch) and is a signature member
of the Society of Western Canadian Artists, paints and exhibits with
the Artists Borealis and Brush With Sunlight and has had several articles published
on art and painting techniques in several art periodicals. Over the years she
has taught/still teaching watercolour and/or oils at the Unviversity of Alberta
(Extension Dept ELLA), MacEwan Community College, City Arts Centre and privately
etc. due to the many requests.
Carol's paintings are loose and cover a wide variety of subject matter, but her favourites are watercolour florals and oil landscapes. She can be seen in Edmonton and surrounding areas painting alla prima. Her paintings can
be found in private and corporate collections across North America and the UK. |
