ABOUT  GEORGE KUBAC

George escaped from communist regime in 1968 after Soviet armies invaded his homeland, Czechoslovakia, and emigrated to Canada as a political refugee. The freedom of his new found homeland allowed him to continue his work as both cardiologist and artist. There was not much spare time however,  but art gave him the much needed emotional release. By the mid 1970s he started to draw and paint intensively and he furthered his art education from wtih well known Czech and Canadian artists as Machan, Sedlacek, Malatek, Skvaril, Cernohorsky, Hencl, Hendrick Dejager and Don Sharpe. He took courses at University of Alberta, McEwan College, Edmonton Art Gallery and studied with re-known American watercolorists Frank Webb, Christopher Schink and Skip Lawrence. His work is publicly exhibited at Royal Alex. Hospital, HYS center, COMPRU.

When asked about art, George would tell you:

"I love life and I love people. I see beauty in them as I see beauty in all things created by man. I see the streets he paved, buildings he erected, churches where he prays, bridges he crosses, castles and boats, farms and cars, and I see the nature which patiently allows him to change it. I also see the beauty in our mysterious and often childlike dreams and desires. All of this I am trying to capture in my work. This way I retain the essence of experience making it unforgettable and comprehensible. This I call art. I offer this to you allowing you to enter my inner life. What you see is not a reality, it is my emotional reaction which you may or may not share. Only you can tell if I succeeded."

He eventually managed to get two books of paintings and drawings published, "The World Around Me" published in 1990 and a collection of paintings, "Colors For You" published in 2000. George donates most of his artwork however, the paintings he exhibits privately and commercially meet with positive response from public and fellow artists.
